The ‘Instituto do Vinho do Porto’ determines Vintage as a wine of extraordinary quality obtained by the harvest of one vintage-year, the so-called ‘millésimé’. The wine has to be bottled between the second and third year after the harvest. And afterwards aged in bottle during several years. |
Ageing in bottle adds delicacy and finesse to the wine, the tannin disappears little by little. The vintage obtains then a well balanced, complex and refined aroma. After ageing on bottle several years, the vintage develops burned, roasted flavors (chocolate, cacao, coffee, cedar, etc.), spicy flavors as cinnamon and pepper and sometimes fruity aromas. |
Excellent with strong cheeses, gooseliverpie, creamy desserts, black chocolate and bilberries. The wine has to be decanted before pouring out. Best served at 16°C |
